Chapel Street Methodist Church, Penzance | Activities

Our main worship services take place on Sunday mornings. We aim to provide an opportunity to encounter Jesus through both contemporary and traditional forms of worship.

Contemporary Worship at 9:30 is relaxed and informal. Music is provided by our band; we listen to a talk, usually from the church’s minister, which is based on the Bible but always has some practical life application; and we share either in an informal celebration of holy communion or a time of response and prayer.

Classic Worship at 11:00 provides the opportunity for those who prefer a more traditional service to worship using hymns with organ accompaniment (our organ is said to be one of the finest in Cornwall), to join in a time of intercessory prayer, to hear a Bible-based, relevant sermon, and once a month to share in holy communion.

Children and young people join in the first part of the Contemporary Worship service, then leave for their own activities. All our children’s workers have undergone DBS checks.

Coffee, tea and biscuits are served after both services.

On special occasions we come together for a combined service at 10:30; check our events listing for details of forthcoming services.

Other Activities

During the week our home groups meet, some in the evening and some during the day, providing an opportunity for Bible-based learning, life sharing and prayer.

A group of church members comes together for prayer each Wednesday morning at 9:00; once a month this incorporates holy communion.

Our Women’s Fellowship enjoys a varied programme of talks and social events on Tuesday afternoons at 2:30.

Little Fishes is for children under five and their carers. Weekly activities take place in term time on Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30.

Extravaganza provides fellowship, lunch and entertainment for the over-fifties at least three times a year.

From time to time we run evening courses to explore in depth some aspect of Christian discipleship.

For further information on any of these activities please contact us or come to a Sunday worship service and speak to our minister or one of the stewards.
